A friendly Pittsburgh Netroots Nation supporter reminded us about the inexpensive, reliable transportation available from the Pittsburgh Airport to Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland (home to the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University).
The 28X Port Authority Transit bus travels between the airport, Downtown Pittsburgh, and Oakland for $2.25 a trip. Make sure you buy a transfer for $0.50 if you immediately take another bus to a different location. Transfers are good for three hours.
Otherwise, a one-way fare on a non-airport-bound bus is $1.75. Note that EXACT CHANGE is required!
The 28X arrives every 20 minutes at the curb outside the baggage claim area of the main concourse. Look for signs for Public Transportation/ Buses above the doors in the baggage claim area. There will be a sign marking the 28X stop outside on the curb. If you can’t find this sign you probably went out the wrong side of the concourse building.
For exact times of departure and arrival, please consult the 28X schedule.
Also see the PopCity article about the 28x.
